Memorial Garden Cemetery
The Cemetery was created to be something of beauty and to enhance a central part of the Rousdon Estate. It serves as a place to reflect and contemplate. A legacy for the future. The Memorial Garden Cemetery. A private Garden of Remembrance; a private cemetery.
The visual impact is park-like. Sculptural, peaceful, respectful and contemplative. The Cemetery is a thing of beauty, especially in the summer months when the tulip and daffodils are in bloom and the cherry blossom trees are in their full glory. Our legacy to those who follow us.
Each interment (ashes or burial) is in perpetuity.
The current Victorian graveyard, lying in the curtilage of the deconsecrated St Pancras Church, is almost full and soon there will be no room. The Memorial Garden Cemetery was created to fill a continuing need for the Estate and surrounding areas.
Only a quarter of us tells someone what our funeral wishes are and maybe the rest of us are just philosophical or uninterested. What does it matter when you are dead? The trouble is it matters a lot.
According to a BBC survey about a quarter of all councils in England think they will run out of space in 20 years. Some believe that the solution is to reuse burial grounds.
In 2007 the law was changed to allow reuse. Not palatable to many. Just think of all the stories there are behind each memorial. Memorials that people expected to be there for eternity.
Maybe that there is no better time than now to consider your contribution to posterity…
